It's been a while. Of course it has. It always is with me and these posts.
Well, as usual first off, thanks for reading. I've been focusing a lot on The Creative Condition stuff recently. It's been pretty cool. We've been working on this great #numanxofficers collaboration - basically cool video interviews promoting the male suicide prevention charity, CALM and the track 'Petals' (Gary Numan and Officers collaborated on it). You can see a sample one (the first of four) below. I'm really proud of these because Gary Numan and Officers are two of my very favourite acts in the world - to work with them both together is a fantastic opportunity, and I got to involve my friends (and colleagues) in it too, which makes it all the more important.
TCC has a few other really cool collaborations coming up over the next few weeks (including handling a campaign for a great indie label called Choose My Music Records) I'll try not to leave it so long before I update people on those!
I've had the fortunate to do some stuff with Inspired Youth recently. I have been hosting workshops with young people in Thirsk (the young people are coming from all around North Yorkshire), and it's been an absolute pleasure. It's part of the National Citizen Service (branded for this project as Do It, Change It, Live It), and the aim for us is to give people skills in social media (and storytelling), so that they can document their own experiences with the project for the benefit of those who will take part in the future. It's definitely been one of the highlights of my year so far.
I am doing a lot more journalism workshops in schools and colleges this year, and I am really enjoying it. It's a welcome challenge to work with such varied groups of young people.
Oh! We've re-launched the Soundspheremag.com website - we're working with WordPress now, which I think is a little bit easier to manage (everyone knows how to do the WordPress thing, right? It's cool...). We are pleased with how it's looking - it's going to be a constant work in progress mind, but the posts look "cleaner", and it's certainly a lot easier to navigate on the whole!
Some other exciting things that have happened in Dom's journo world; I finally got something published on The Quietus! Oh yes! I did an interview with prog-folk maestro Alexander Tucker. I'm pretty chuffed with it, and you can read it at the previous link.
I've also started writing for ReGen magazine in the States again - I did two features on some local York acts - one, of course, being Officers (I do really like 'em), and the second is another really excellent young electronic band called Idiophonic - you can read them by simply clicking the links. There's also going to be an awesome feature published on This Is Fake DIY fairly soon, on Death In Vegas - I got to interview the mighty Richard Fearless to do that, and it was pretty great.
Anyway, check out the first video from our Officers and Gary Numan collaboration - enjoy!
Thanks, as always for listening.
Dom
