One of the coolest things about this job, and doing these industry spotlights for BBC Introducing in North Yorkshire, is that I get to chat to people on a local level (York and Yorkshire) that have influenced me in one way or another. Paul Banks (of Shed Seven fame) gave me a job a few years back, and that allowed me to get my start in the copywriting and editing side of journalism when I built a blog for what is now Digifish's website.
There's no doubt in my mind, that Paul was going to be an inspiration for locals in York and those in the creative industry. Not only has he had a very successful musical career with Shed Seven, but his film-making portfolio (showreel below) is now nearly (if not just as...) impressive.
Hopefully, from this (though it was broadcast a while ago now), young filmmakers in the city of York (as well as surrounding areas...), and aspiring musicians as well can find something to motivate.
